Mold is part of the “fungi” kingdom. There are many different kinds of mold, with some being extremely harmful to a person, and other kinds being non-toxic. Stachybotrys chartarum or “Black mold“ is a slippery greenish-black mold that can make a person very sick or cause other harmful health risks. This particular kind of mold has caused the death of babies due to respiratory failure, and can also cause illnesses like bronchitis or asthma, and many other disorders of the lungs.
Just about every home has some kind of mold somewhere inside the home. Not all types of mold are toxic or deadly, though. It can be extremely difficult to tell which mold is toxic and which one is not unless the mold is tested in a lab. Mold is not always found in run-down or dirty houses. A brand new house that is continually kept clean can still have mold. You should treat all molds found in your home as if they were toxic because no matter what kind of mold is found, it is not healthy for you or your home.
